Security record

User funds lost through the maker's fault

No customer-data leak on record as of 13 October 2026.

Only the maker's own failures count; phishing and lab attacks that need the stolen device do not. Every wallet compared: Crypto wallet hacks, and the wallets that were never hacked.

Questions

Has Safe been hacked?

Yes. In 2025: Code planted in Safe's web interface from a compromised developer machine made Bybit's signers approve a different transaction than the one they saw; the Safe contracts worked as written. Losses: ~$1.5B (Bybit's own multisig); Bybit covered its customers; Safe paid nothing.

Which coins does Safe support?

Ethereum, plus tokens on Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, OP Mainnet, Base and Avalanche.

Is Safe open source?

Yes. Its source code is public at https://github.com/safe-global.

Does Safe support multisig?

Yes. Safe can hold one key of a multi-signature wallet, where several keys on separate devices are needed to move funds — the setup that survives any single wallet failing.

Is Safe custodial?

No. Safe is self-custody: the user holds the keys, and nobody else can move the funds.
