Bitcoin 2 (BTC2)

Bitcoin 2 ranks #238 of 504 cryptocurrencies. On a list that also counts tokens, memecoins, wrapped coins, staked derivatives and stablecoins it appears at #1916: 1678 of the 1915 assets ahead of it are not native coins but tokens or claims. A token is issued on a host blockchain rather than running its own; a claim stands for an asset already counted. Of the 2157 non-native assets CoinSpectrum lists above it by market cap, about 77% are tokens, 18% are claims on other assets and 4% are memecoins.

Durability: five years or more with no halt, freeze or reversal✓7 full years since its first recorded price, no halt, freeze or reversal in five years
Fungibility: every unit interchangeable, none the protocol can freeze or set apart✗an authority can freeze funds: From June 2019 the team made unclaimed snapshot balances unspendable ('the unclaimed balances cannot be spent'), a protocol-level freeze of coins belonging to BTC holders who had not yet claimed.
Divisibility: the smallest unit worth a cent or less✓8 decimal places, the smallest unit worth $5.9e-10
Portability: fees of a cent or less and capacity for real demand–
Verifiability: open-source nodes and checking without a trusted server✗node software open source; no light clients or pruned nodes
Privacy (5 checks)42 of 5 passed source
Whitepaper privacy: keys are not tied to an identity✓Addresses are hashes of keys users generate themselves; the node checks scripts and signatures, with no identity condition in its consensus rules.
UTXO ledger: a new key for each payment, no account linking every coin✓
Network-level privacy: the node hides where a transaction came from (Dandelion++, Tor or I2P, on by default)✗Bitcoin-derived node relays its own transactions over clearnet by default; Tor (-proxy/-onion) needs user setup and there is no Dandelion.
Hidden amounts (confidential transactions, RingCT, shielded pools, Mimblewimble)✗zBTC2 (Zerocoin) is disabled; ordinary transfers are transparent.
Hidden sender and receiver (ring signatures or zero-knowledge proofs, one-time or stealth addresses)✗zBTC2 is disabled "while a new privacy protocol is being worked on".

Features (3 checks)3.31 of 3 passed
Payments safe to accept within seconds✓SwiftTX masternode transaction locks (PIVX/Dash InstantSend design) are documented as live; the PIVX-era node also relays first-seen with no replace-by-fee. Whether SwiftTX is still enabled by spork could not be verified.
Pruned nodes: a full node can validate and drop old history✗Bitcoin 2 2.3.1b has no -prune option.
Light clients verify payments from headers or proofs, without a trusted server✗Bitcoin 2 (PIVX-derived) is proof of stake, so Bitcoin-style SPV cannot check the stake behind its headers, and no shipped light client verifies it; light wallets trust a server.
Security (miner pay and 7 checks)—2 of 3 points, 6 not yet measured source

No 51% attack or deep reorganisation in five years✓
Programmability (tokens, contracts, 5 checks)1.11 of 9 points source
Token issuance0No token issuance on the chain itself
Smart contracts: scripting for spending conditions1Bitcoin-derived Script (PIVX-style zerocoin codebase) with spending conditions only.
Multisig and time locks✗OP_CHECKMULTISIG is present, but OP_NOP2/OP_NOP3 stay no-ops in its interpreter (no CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY or CHECKSEQUENCEVERIFY), so outputs cannot carry time-locked spending conditions.
Atomic swaps with other chains✗Without CLTV/CSV no script refund path can be time-locked, so an HTLC cannot be expressed in an output.
An exchange built into the protocol✗No exchange in the protocol.
Cross-chain messaging the chain verifies itself✗No cross-chain feature in the protocol.
Non-fungible tokens✗No token or NFT type in the protocol.

Twenty criteria, weighted equally. The Cryptocurrency Standards have six sections: sound money qualities (six checks: scarcity, durability, fungibility, divisibility, portability, verifiability), privacy (five checks), scalability (four measures and three features), security (miner pay and seven checks), programmability (token issuance, smart contracts and five checks) and decentralisation (censorship resistance, no central team, who can mint, nodes, holders, premine, fundraising and developer share). Provisional: criteria marked — are not yet measured and are left out of the average. A rating of structure and market depth, not a price forecast or investment advice. No developer allocation is documented: the chain started (mainnet early 2018) from a 1:1 snapshot of Bitcoin balances at BTC block 507,850, 16,848,064.795 BTC2, and everything since has been minted by stakers and masternodes. The snapshot is a fork airdrop to all BTC holders, not an insider grant.

No ICO or presale is mentioned in the BitcoinTalk ANN or on bitc2.org.

No sale of BTC2 by the team is documented.

Each block's 0.2 BTC2 goes 3/4 to the staker and 1/4 to a masternode; no developer or treasury share.

Bitcoin 2 (bitc2.org, CMC id 3974) is proof of stake with masternodes, not SHA-256 proof of work as the input says; it may not belong in the PoW set. A separate, unrelated 2024 project at btc2.lol also calls itself 'Bitcoin 2' (EVM fork at BTC block 839,999); the data here is for the bitc2.org chain. The snapshot froze unclaimed coins (2019, before the record window). clients is 0 because the only client's last release (2.3.1b, June 2021) is older than 24 months.

What a regulator has said

No SEC/CFTC determination — unclassified.

The regulator's position, reported as stated, not CoinSpectrum's. Assets nobody has ruled on are left unclassified rather than sorted by a guess.

How CoinSpectrum ranks Bitcoin 2

Bitcoin 2 is #238 among cryptocurrencies and #1916 in the market ranking, which lists wrapped coins, staked derivatives, stablecoins and tokens alongside them. CoinSpectrum counts an asset once, and counts only cryptocurrencies: assets with their own blockchain and their own consensus. A wrapped coin, a staked derivative or a stablecoin is a claim on something already counted; a token, memecoin or otherwise, runs on another chain's blocks. All of them are listed, each in its own section, and none is added to the total. The 1678 places between Bitcoin 2's two ranks are held by claims and tokens, not by other networks. The methodology sets out the rule and the counting rule argues for it.

The price above is the median of the exchanges the site reads live, checked every minute and cross-checked against a market snapshot (how market data is gathered). The grade is scored on published criteria, each with its source (the method). The site is independent, nothing on it is a paid placement, and its statements are signed (about CoinSpectrum, the manifesto).
