BitcoinZ ranks #273 of 504 cryptocurrencies. On a list that also counts tokens, memecoins, wrapped coins, staked derivatives and stablecoins it appears at #2545: 2272 of the 2544 assets ahead of it are not native coins but tokens or claims. A token is issued on a host blockchain rather than running its own; a claim stands for an asset already counted. Of the 2810 non-native assets CoinSpectrum lists above it by market cap, about 81% are tokens, 16% are claims on other assets and 3% are memecoins.

| Hidden amounts (confidential transactions, RingCT, shielded pools, Mimblewimble) | ✓ | Sapling shielded pool, active since block 328,500 (2019); 2.3.1 (Oct 2026) closed only the Sprout JoinSplit pool. |

| Halt, freeze or reversal, 2026-10-21 | ✗ | Block 1,860,181 contained five input-less Sprout JoinSplits with all-zero proofs creating 105 billion BTCZ that never existed. The developers' emergency release 2.3.1 declared it invalid and rewound the chain 115 blocks to 1,860,180, rolling back every later transaction; exchanges were told to keep deposits and withdrawals suspended. |

| Steady work, 6 of 6 | ✓ | 16 commits in 4 of the last 12 months (github.com/btcz/bitcoinz); BitcoinZ 2.3.1 (emergency) released 2026-10-21, after 2.3.0 (2026-10-19), 2.2.0 (2026-05-05), 2.1.1 (2025-08-14) and 2.1.0 (2024-10-14). |
| Shipped a security fix in two years, +1 | ✓ | BitcoinZ 2.3.1 (emergency), Oct 2026: invalidated block 1,860,181, whose input-less transactions minted 105 billion BTCZ through skipped Sprout proofs and a 64-bit overflow, and disallowed JoinSplits. |

| Unfixed vulnerability, disclosed 2024-07-03, −1 | ✗ | CVE-2024-52914: crafted orphan transactions can stall the node for hours in the uninterruptible orphan-resolution loop; still in BitcoinZ 2.3.1. |
| Unfixed vulnerability, disclosed 2024-07-03, −1 | ✗ | CVE-2020-14198: misbehaving peers are auto-banned into an unbounded ban list, so many attacker addresses can exhaust CPU and memory; still in BitcoinZ 2.3.1. |
| Unfixed vulnerability, disclosed 2024-07-31, −1 | ✗ | CVE-2024-52919: addr-message spam can overflow the address manager's 32-bit id counter and crash the node, with no addr rate limit; still in BitcoinZ 2.3.1. |
| Unfixed vulnerability, disclosed 2024-09-18, −1 | ✗ | CVE-2019-25220: a long low-difficulty header chain can exhaust memory because the node has no headers pre-synchronisation; still in BitcoinZ 2.3.1. |
| Unfixed vulnerability, disclosed 2026-05-05, −1 | ✗ | CVE-2024-52911: a crafted invalid block can make script-check threads read freed precomputed transaction data and crash the node; still in BitcoinZ 2.3.1. |
| Exploit of the chain, 2026-06-20, −1 | ✗ | Block 1,789,967 carried an input-less transaction spending a Sprout JoinSplit whose proof was never verified, minting about 56.3M BTCZ; the block was not invalidated. |
| Exploit of the chain, 2026-10-21, −1 | ✗ | Block 1,860,181 carried five input-less transactions spending Sprout JoinSplits with all-zero proofs, minting 105 billion BTCZ because cached checks skipped proof verification; BitcoinZ 2.3.1 invalidated the block and rolled the chain back. |
Twenty criteria, weighted equally. The Cryptocurrency Standards have six sections: sound money qualities (six checks: scarcity, durability, fungibility, divisibility, portability, verifiability), privacy (five checks), scalability (four measures and three features), security (miner pay and seven checks), programmability (token issuance, smart contracts and five checks) and decentralisation (censorship resistance, no central team, who can mint, nodes, holders, premine, fundraising and developer share). Provisional: criteria marked — are not yet measured and are left out of the average. A rating of structure and market depth, not a price forecast or investment advice. Two forged-proof incidents: on 2026-06-20 block 1,789,967 accepted a Sprout withdrawal with an unverified proof that paid 56,305,778 BTCZ to t1RGJarR9UVinsAVmH2Xxdw7sVW8oeSM6Kn. That block remains in the chain (issue #118; 2.3.1 checkpoints past it), and the Sprout pool held only 0.447 BTCZ afterwards. In October 2026, 105 billion counterfeit BTCZ were rolled back. zpool, a multipool, finds about 89% of blocks. The funding-stream labels (ECC, Zcash Foundation, Major Grants) are inherited from Zcash code; their recipients are BitcoinZ multisig addresses.

The regulator's position, reported as stated, not CoinSpectrum's. Assets nobody has ruled on are left unclassified rather than sorted by a guess.
BitcoinZ is #273 among cryptocurrencies and #2545 in the market ranking, which lists wrapped coins, staked derivatives, stablecoins and tokens alongside them. CoinSpectrum counts an asset once, and counts only cryptocurrencies: assets with their own blockchain and their own consensus. A wrapped coin, a staked derivative or a stablecoin is a claim on something already counted; a token, memecoin or otherwise, runs on another chain's blocks. All of them are listed, each in its own section, and none is added to the total. The 2272 places between BitcoinZ's two ranks are held by claims and tokens, not by other networks. The methodology sets out the rule and the counting rule argues for it.
The price above is the median of the exchanges the site reads live, checked every minute and cross-checked against a market snapshot (how market data is gathered). The grade is scored on published criteria, each with its source (the method). The site is independent, nothing on it is a paid placement, and its statements are signed (about CoinSpectrum, the manifesto).
